Along with other area park districts, the St. Charles Park District is a founding member of the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association (FVSRA), which provides year round recreational programs for individuals with disabilities by working with staff to mainstream participants into Park District sponsored recreation programs.
For Individuals with Disabilities
Working collaboratively with FVSRA, the District provides reasonable modifications for individuals with disabilities who need assistance to participate successfully in programs.
The District strives to foster independence and active participation in the least restrictive environment. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), modifications can vary from program to program and are determined following an intake assessment conducted by a team member from FVSRA.
Modifications may include one or more of the following:
- Activity Modification
- Adaptive Equipment
- Additional Staff Support
- Sign Language Interpreters
- Staff Training
- Support Plans for Behavior, Diabetes, or Seizure Disorders
If you or a household member has a disability and would like to request inclusion services for the duration of a program, please contact Registration Supervisor Cori Hedlund at 630-513-4332.
If you’re completing a printed registration form, remember to check the box for inclusion services.
If you’re using the District’s online registration system, please contact Registration Supervisor Cori Hedlund at 630-513-4332.
Timeline for Services
For new participants, FVSRA aims to complete an intake assessment within one week of receiving your request for inclusion services. Once an individual has a completed intake on file, the average time to determine and coordinate modifications is two weeks. To provide the best customer service, we ask for at least two weeks’ notice before the start of the program to arrange modifications. For requests received after that time frame, the District will put forth its best effort to make accommodations for inclusions services.
