The Adult Activity Center is rolling out a number of trips to new and exciting destinations this spring. Operated by the St. Charles Park District, the Adult Activity Center serves community members 50 years of age and older.
First up is the Progressive Tour of River Glen of St. Charles, a center which offers independent living, assisted living, and more. Attendees can showcase their talents and knowledge at each destination by solving a puzzle or answering a trivia question. This tour takes place from 12:45 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 25. The cost is$8 and the registration deadline is March 20.
Attendees can try their luck with a trip to Harrah’s Casino in Joliet. The trip will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 31. The cost is $25. Those interested have until March 25 to register.
The executive chef of Weber Grill will highlight techniques to cook delicious meat during the offering, Get Classy at Weber Grill. In addition to learning from a master, attendees will enjoy a wonderful meal of steak, salmon, and flavorful sides. The trip will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 7. The cost is $144, with a registration deadline of April 1.
The Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills is filled with treasures, and those who join this April 15 tour to the massive private residence will have the opportunity to hear tales of the family, view demonstrations of music machines and learn the history of the estate’s Carousel Pavilion. This walking tour includes two hours at the residence and one at the pavilion with the foundation director as the guide. The tour will take place from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and is $69. The deadline for registration is March 30.
A Mystery Trip will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23. The deadline to register is April 15.
“I give random, vague clues which really keep people guessing,” said Lynne Yuill, supervisor for the center about the popular offering. “It’s fun to sit on the bus and listen to people try to guess where we are headed. I always look forward to venturing to new venues we have not been to before.”
Butterflies and their fascinating life cycle will be the focus of a journey to Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens in Rockford. The trip, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, will feature the conservatory’s butterfly house which houses both native and exotic butterflies. The cost is $29, with a registration deadline of April 20.
A look at the past, including an exploration of the area’s murderers and other larger-than-life figures, will be highlighted in Ottawa’s Graveyard Stories, taking place from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Thursday, May 8. The cost is $74, and the registration deadline is May 1.
Trip-goers can spend the afternoon at the Metropolis Theatre in Arlington Heights enjoying a classic USO show full of timeless songs, comedic numbers and plenty of slapstick. The trip to see “Thanks for the Memories, A USO Salute Encore” will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 13. The cost is $91. The deadline to register is April 28.
Another can’t-miss theater experience is “Cats” at The Paramount Theater in Aurora. See this famed production with a trip taking place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. The cost is $104, with an April 29 registration deadline.
A show about the importance of shared history and connections, The Last Potluck Supper, appears at The Fireside Theatre in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. The trip to see this heartfelt show takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19. The cost is $156, with a May 18 registration deadline.
